What is split earlobe repair surgery?

Earlobe repair is a quick and effective cosmetic dermatological surgery procedure to correct ears stretched by large ear piercings or split earlobes when normal earrings rip or from direct ear trauma.

What’s involved in split earlobe repair surgery?

Split earlobe repair is a procedure that Dr Hussain performs under local anaesthetic for an earlobe which has torn entirely, as a result of overstretching or accidental tearing when wearing earrings. A small cut is made into the earlobes and then meticulously stitched back together to repair the affected area. It is a relatively quick and simple procedure with great results. The surgery involves removing the excess tissue and using fine dissolving buried and outside skin stitches in the earlobe to create a normal shape.

What can I expect after split earlobe repair surgery?

Immediately after your split earlobe repair surgery, you will have a pressure bandage on for at least 48 hours. You will receive detailed aftercare advice from Dr Hussain and his team but usually the stitches can be removed after one week.

As with any surgery, after your split earlobe repair surgery there will be small scars on the ears which will at first be red, but will eventually fade over the next six months. Ears can be re-pierced 6 months after the operation has taken place.
